Position Summary:

The successful candidate, after a suitable amount of orientation to the role and to Parkwood, will be working on a day when the Chaplain is absent – which can be negotiated, but will likely be on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday. Occasional Sunday morning worship leadership will be required. Time for communication/reflection with the Chaplain will be included, either in person or online. Following the 6-month contract, the situation will be reviewed with some possibility of it being extended.

Assets and Qualifications:

  • Theologically trained, preferably has completed some units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Experience providing cultural programming
  • Familiar with religions/faith traditions in addition to Christianity
  • Experienced in working with Seniors,
  • Knowledge of dementia and other age-related illness
  • Able to lead in worship and in small groups
  • Musical ability is an asset
  • Must comply with all hiring policies, including at least 3 Covid-19 vaccinations, and clearance from CPIC Vulnerable Sector check

Responsibilities:

  1. Organizes and/or leads religious/spiritual services and other faith group programs as indicated by the current resident population.
  2. Provides individual visitation with residents as needed.
  3. Facilitates contact with the resident’s former community/faith groups as applicable.
  4. Provides crisis intervention for experiences such as grief, illness and death.
  5. Is available for individual staff counseling and provides staff with support in spiritual and religious issues as well as grief and bereavement support.
  6. Maintains proper documentation on the electronic Resident Progress Notes.
  7. Provides end-of-life support to residents and their families and friends.
  8. Other duties assigned

Shift Information:

  • 7.5 hours / week
  • 6-month contract, Part-time
  • Day shift
  • Weekend – Occasional Sunday morning worship leadership will be required.

Ability to provide effective service in French (proficient in conversational French for activities of daily living) is considered an asset.
